2014 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 3,900 times in 2014. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 3 trips to carry that many people.

Hope that you fall in love and it hurts so bad… The only way you can know is give it all you have!!

Artist: One Republic

Song: I Lived

Album: Native (2013)

I love music. I love a lot of bands and a lot of songs… but some people, some people I just very truly, deeply admire. One of those people is Ryan Tedder. I don’t know how or why, but I just feel like he’s a genuinely good man, on top of that he is a genius. All the work One Republic has done has been nothing short of ridiculously amazing. They have also made a point of coming out with unique music videos that do not resort to glamor to be a success, which brings me to why I just absolutely had to post this blog right away.

Native is an amazing album. I have had it on my iPod since it came out and it’s full of one hit after the other. Call me stupid, but I had not up till this point seen the music video for I Lived. I love the song, absolutely belt it out every time I hear it, and the film maker in me had a whole music video planned for it (which I play out in my mind along with the song every time ofcourse). So today, as I was viewing Channel V after ages, and the song came on my first thought was “they stole my song, I had an amazing idea for it” and then the next minute or two brought me to tears… This music video, it’s freaking heartfelt.

Seriously, I don’t think I would be imagining my version of it anymore, this is pure and simple emotion right here. This is why I love this band. It is so good I actually had to turn the TV off, coz watching a Nicki Minaj video immediately after this seemed disrespectful and I had to come post this right away.

So if you are silly like me and haven’t yet seen the magic that is this video, do so right now… and if you have, let’s watch it again and shed a tear or two. πŸ™‚

Tell me, did you fall for a shooting star– One without a permanent scar? And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there?

Artist: Train

Song: Drops of Jupiter

Album: Drops of Jupiter (2001)

In 2001, when this album came out I wasn’t even aware of this band even existing. Stranger still, I was introduced to Train by my BFF who, love her as I do, has very bad taste in music (Sorry bibu!) But flukes happen and I ended up loving this band too much.

I recently got re-acquainted with this song because of The Voice, and this is why I love that show. Listening back, I have been taken over by the sheer beauty of the lyrics of this song. It can be interpreted so many ways and is just beautiful to listen to, like stop-all-your-work-and-just-listen kind of beautiful.

So it’s 13 years late, but this is my recent song obsession. Have a good day! πŸ™‚

A thousand miles seems pretty far but they’ve got planes and trains and cars, I’d walk to you if I had no other way!

Artist: Plain White T’s

Song: Hey There Delilah

Album: EP Hey There Delilah (2007)

I don’t remember a single girl around me who didn’t want to be named Delilah in the year 2007 when this song became all the rage. It’s pure romance and its so beautiful it hurts. Even now, 7 years ago, I just need to hear this track every now and then… just to feel good.

It was only yesterday I realized just how much this song is quickly becoming my anthem right now. All the important relationships of my life at the moment are long distance. So when you have a best friend in Toronto, a sister in Qatar, and a person you’re starting to get to know in Liverpool but traveling to Los Angeles, and your days are spent just figuring out different time zones and daylight savings and day/night, hour differences and who’s at work when… this ends up being the most important app on your phone:

capture6And all the songs about distance take so many shades and levels of understanding… and staring at your phone becomes your new fun habit….

Distance is difficult, but I learn everyday that if people are really your people, no distance is far enough… and time is just a minor hitch in the way… and sometimes you can feel closer to your bff by snapchatting than you ever did before.

So this is where I’m at right now… trying to keep busy, reading, writing, thanking Skype, Snapchat, Whatsapp and Facebook everyday…and listening to music!

Enjoy! πŸ™‚

So it’s gonna be forever or it’s gonna go down in flames You can tell me when it’s over If the high was worth the pain

Artist: Taylor Swift

Song: Blank Space

Album: 1989 (2014)

I’m 25 and I have no shame in saying that I’m a Swiftie through and through. I was super excited for her new album and I have been sitting here for the past half hour or so going through this new album (up to track 9 at the moment) and how could I NOT POST ABOUT IT!!!

The sound is new and changed… but it’s still T-swift. She’s grown and mature… but still loads of songs that have quotable potential and lost of verses that make you go “OMG, THAT IS SO MY LIFE STORY RIGHT NOW!” Seriously, 10 songs in and I already battled over what song to put in the blog entry. But ultimately blank space won out. It looks like I’ll be singing this one for the next few days to come. Not to mention this one I really can relate to at the moment.

So to all the fellow swifties out there. Hope that grin on your face is as wide as mine right now. I’m having fun listening to this one! ❀

People fall in love in mysterious ways, Maybe it’s all part of a plan. I’ll just keep on making the same mistakes, hoping that you’ll understand!

Song: Thinking Out Loud

Artist: Ed Sheeran

Album: X (2014)

This guy though… I swear to God! so I am going about my life all routine not even knowing just what the hell is about to hit me. So this lovely man comes out with a new song… this adorable, romantic, epic song – with a video to die for… and he looks FREAKING FINE!!! and now I’m here all hyperventilating… blushing like a maniac with this god-awful smile on my face…. HOW IS THIS FAIR!!!!

I absolutely have loved every single thing this man does… and this right here, is an all time high! and I’m glad he finally had face time in his music video. This song is being said to be in danger of being “over-played”… well, my iTunes won’t disagree, I’ve had it on a loop for the last hour!

Thank you music gods! dedicated to all music lovers, Ed Sheeran lover and lovers in general today ❀
